BurnP3+ is an hybrid simulator, integrating fire growth models that produce burn probability information for a given landscape based on input data such as elevation and fuel load maps, and climate data. The integration of models like Prometheus and Cell2Fire, make it a versatile tool for wildfire management and research. For a comprehensive guide on getting started with BurnP3+, the best resource is official BurnP3+ Getting Started page.
Installation: BurnP3+ is best utilized in a Windows GUI environment. While R and Python options are available, I have not been successful in getting them to work. Some government agencies use Linux command line versions, but I have not experimented with these. Again, for detailed installation instructions, please refer to the official BurnP3+ Getting Started page.
Running the Simulation: Once installed, BurnP3+ can be operated through its Windows GUI. While there are R and Python options available, as mentioned earlier, they can be tricky to get working. Additionally, there is a cloud portal available for displaying results, but it does not offer a working environment for running simulations.
Outputs: BurnP3+ generates detailed burn probability maps and statistical reports based on the simulations.
Sample burn probability output.
Sample burn probability statistics.
